Polvoron as Home Business

Polvoron is an easy to make yet delicious confectionery. You can add twists to the basic polvoron recipe presented here.

3 cups all purpose flour (sift before measuring)
¾ to 1 cup granulated (white) sugar
½ to 1 cup powdered milk
½ to ¾ cup melted butter or margarine
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup pinipig or rice crispies
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

How to make:

1. In a skillet, using medium heat, toast all-purpose flour until light brown color is attained. Set aside.

2. In a mixing bowl, mix powdered milk, salt, margarine, and vanilla extract (optional)**. Mix evenly.

3. Add toasted flour to the milk mixture and mix again.

4. Lastly, add granulated sugar and rice crispies and mix again.

5. Form the polvoron into desired shapes using a molder.

6. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until the polvoron does not easily break.

7. Wrap in papel de hapon (Japenese paper) or colored cellophane.

** If you are going to include vanilla extract in your recipe, add it first to the melted butter.

1. Make sure that the flour is slightly browned, not burned.
2. You can also add the milk and salt in the toasted flour while it's warm. Then add the melted butter to the mixture.
3. You can also use a food processor for an even mix.
