Powdered Laundry Soap for Business (Philippines)

Many Filipinos use powdered detergent for their laundry. This is probably why there are many advertisements on the powdered form of detergent than the bar. In addition, many households use washing machines in washing their clothes.

You can make your own powdered detergent for home use or as a business. Here is the recipe for powdered laundry soap or washing powder. Yield of this soap recipe is about 2 kilograms of powdered soap.


1000 g. or 1 kg. Soda Ash
160 g. Linear Alykyl Benzene Sulfuric (LABS)
100 g. Distilled water
40 g. Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP)
800 g. Sodium sulfate
100 g. Sodium Metasillicate
40 g. Sodium Sulfite
60 g. Sodium perborate
20 g. Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC)
24 g. Coco Fatty Alcohol Sulfate (CFAS)
10 g. Speckles (optional)
5 ml. Ariel

Procedure for making the detergent:

1. Mix soda ash and LABS in a container. Use wooden ladle in mixing. (Note: Never handle the chemicals with bare hands.)

2. Add distilled water and mix thoroughly. Let cool.

3. Add remaining ingredients and mix again.

4. You can add essential oil for fragrance if desired. (Note: You might want to experiment on how many drops of essential oil to put on your detergent.)

5. Store in plastic container or pack it for retail.

Although there are many suppliers for soap making, it is best that you contact first the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for accredited suppliers.
