Shrimp Kroepeck

Kroepeck or kropeck is a favorite snack among Filipinos. It is very easy to make and it needs a few ingredients. If you had prawns or shrimps for dinner, don't throw away the heads as this can be used to make shrimp kroepeck.

Cooked product can also be sold for added income. This can be a potential home business for the mother's left at home.


2 cups uncooked rice

½ cup small shrimps or head of shrimps

2 tsp. salt

½ tsp. MSG or vetsin (optional)

¼ tsp. finely ground black or white pepper

food color (optional)


1. Add water to rice and soak overnight or soak uncooked rice in hot water for 20 minutes. Drain well.

2. Grind soaked rice grains with shrimp or heads. The mixture should be thoroughly ground to a thin paste.

3. Add salt, MSG and food color. MSG and food color may be optional ingredients.

4. Mix well.

5. Pour mixture into a slightly greased pan and steam for about 2 to 3 minutes or until mixture becomes clear.

6. Sun dry for 2 to 3 days or until it becomes brittle.

7. Cut into desired sizes.

8. Store in a cool dry place or deep fry and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
